Get a look at the top 8 players for Barstow's 2018 Varsity Girl's Tennis team.

The top eight Barstow tennis girls, Helene Bergere (‘19), Lauren Shore (‘19), Hannah Tadros (‘19), Hope Leathers (‘20), Arwa Rawjani (‘20), Allison McPherson (‘20), Mia Sabapathy (‘21), and Divya Dendi (‘22), competed in the Great 8 Tournament on August 24th and 25th in Columbia, Missouri.

The girls left Barstow at 7:45 AM on Friday, August 24th for Columbia and began playing at around 1:00 PM. The tennis team spent the night at Stoney Creek Inn in Columbia and continued playing into Saturday. The team competed in both singles and doubles matches. Playing in a difficult tournament with highly ranked teams, the girls finish in 8th place. Although no one won a doubles game, Hope Leathers won one of her singles matches 8-2, Helene Bergere won two of her singles matches 8-5 and 8-2, and Hannah Tadros won three of her singles matches 8-6, 10-8, and 6-0.

Arwa says,  “Even though we lost, we grew closer as a team.” The girls are using their loss at the Great 8 Tournament as an opportunity to learn from mistakes and to focus on improvements. The season has barely started, and the girls have plenty of games ahead of them. If not a win, the girls did receive quite a bonding experience in Columbia. Playing games and eating pizza, the girls grew closer as a team. More home games will be coming soon, so make sure to be there to cheer on your Lady Knights!
