Teacher Feature: Profe Marvin

Francesca Mauro
Profe Marvin has earned a place in the hearts of Upper School Spanish students for her lessons on songs, subjunctive verb tense, and Spanish culture.
Profe Marvin started teaching at Barstow seven years ago after her high school friend and former classmate, Mrs. Guldin, told her about an opening. Profe Marvin sought to follow her passions for Spanish, learning, and building relationships, which the position at Barstow allowed her to combine. Her favorite part about teaching at Barstow is the conversations she has with both students and colleagues. Profe Marvin emphasizes the importance of communication and instills a love of languages in each of her students. She believes that communication is an important facet of everyday life and that learning another language, such as Spanish, allows us to communicate with more people, broadens perspectives, and allows for different modes of thinking. In her free time, Profe Marvin likes to play with her three kids. On weekends, they play soccer and board games. They also like to undertake art projects, cooking, and exploring Kansas City.
