Grade 3 Makes a Difference

On Wednesday, third graders gave presentations about difference makers from around the world, after making a difference themselves here at home.
Each third grade student selected an individual whose impact on the world they find meaningful. Students researched their subjects and prepared oral presentations about their lives and accomplishments, and described adversities they faced and overcame. Each student ended their presentation with an inspirational quote from their difference maker. Selections included Galileo, Abraham Lincoln, Jane Goodall, Malcolm X, Dolly Parton,  Simone Biles and Taylor Swift. Watch the livestream.

Not only did the students have the opportunity to learn about difference makers, they also had the opportunity to be difference makers in our community. Last week, students volunteered at Giving the Basics, packaging hygiene products for underserved families. They visited a Mission Springs assisted living center to sing for and visit with residents, and when they returned to school, they created artwork to display at Kids TLC and decorated birthday bags for Operation Breakthrough. Throughout the unit on difference makers, third graders colleted books for an organization called Reach Out and Read KC.
