Barstow Filmmakers Receive 48 Awards at Festival

A Barstow senior claimed the top prize at the highly-competitive University of Central Missouri Foreign Language Film Festival. Senior Lily Bash won first place for Best Film Across All Languages, and her classmates brought home another 47 awards for Spanish, Chinese and French films.

Bash's film, "Ilusiones de hielo," earned an additional six awards for:
  • Best Advanced Spanish Film
  • Best Technical Achievement in a Spanish Film (second)
  • Most Original Spanish Film
  • Best Spanish Script (second)
  • Best Overall Spanish Film
  • Best Super Short Film.
Seniors Willow MacIvor, Caleb Chang, Grant Harkins, Lexi Dixon, Miranda Beyer and Noah Waldman won second place overall for their film 樹仍然會倒下 ("A Tree Still Falls"). Juniors Divya Dendi and Audrey Huston completed the top spot swepp, winning third place overall with their film 藝術表演:專心致志 ("Performing Arts: When I Devote My Heart and Soul"). That's right, a Barstow sweep of the top three awards overall!

Freshmen Chinese language students Michael Yagan, Maxwell Moore and Connor Lucido won seven awards including Best Overall Chinese Film for their movie 周末快樂 ("Have a Good Weekend!"). Seniors  Clara Ketchell and Liddy Scurato and juniors Stewart Kennedy Gregg, Ben Kierst and Max Parr won five awards for their French film, "La Chute."
