Virtual Visitors from Argentina Arrive at Barstow

The Global Education program is hosting virtual visitors from Argentina this week, providing meaningful cultural exchanges even when travel restrictions prevent students from coming to campus in person.
Students from Colegio La Merced in Cordoba, Argentina, "arrived" on Thursday, Oct. 22. After a welcome and orientation via Zoom, they attended a Spanish class with Mr. Jones and his middle school students, took a personalized tour with upper schools, and even shared lunch outside on a warm fall day. They ended their first day in Ms. Guldin's Modern World History class.

On Friday, they broke out into small groups in Señora Marvin's Spanish AP class to practice conversational English and Spanish, talking about everything from coursework to their favorite TikTok videos.

The activities were planned by Director of Global Education Ilsy Blachly, and are a version of what students typically experience in person when campus is open to international visitors.

"They also attended a video journalism class and learned about how to host a BTVN show," Blachly said. "Some of the visitors will participate in Monday's BTVN show. And next week, they will visit the lower school with prepared activities to teach the students about Argentina, and a song for the kindergarten class."

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, their last day of the "trip," visitors will watch the lower school Halloween parade and meet a virtual host family to learn about life off campus in the Kansas City community.
