The Barstow girls tennis team won their district beating Notre Dame de Sion, 5-2. The ladies set the stage with some outstanding doubles and winninbg all three. At #1, Sarena Biria and Mia Sabapathy dominated 8-3. At #2 doubles, Hope Leathers and Mary Colombo dominated the net for an 8-2 win and at #3 Divya Dendi dominated the net as she and Aishi Sethi rolled to an 8-5 win.
The girls needed only two singles wins to secure the district title. Freshman Sarena Biria made quick work for the 4th point (5 needed to win) winning 6-0, 6-1. With the match in the balance both Mary Colombo and Hope Leathers both won their first set, Hope, 7-5 and Mary 6-2. Both girls began the second set down a game, but Hope fought back to tie at 4-4, and Mary. came from behind 3-4 to take a 5-4 lead before capturing the team match point in a long and exciting exchange and won the deciding set 6-4.
The ladies play tomorrow in the individual district doubles and singles competition on the Plaza courts.
In the team competition the girls have earned a spot in the sectionals and will play and undefeated Forsyth team (16-0) against in the morning next Saturday with the winner moving on to the quarterfinals in the afternoon against the winner of Springfield Catholic (13-1) or and undefeated Bolivar team (16-0)_
