MATHLETES EARN ONE OF BARSTOW’S BEST FINISHES AT STATE CONTEST
They’ve worked all year to sharpen their problem solving skills and it paid off big. Barstow mathletes won second place in Sweepstakes at the Missouri Elementary Math Contest in Columbia on Saturday. May 5.
“I’m so proud of all these mathletes for breaking through the tough competition,” Math Club sponsor Charlotte Keith said. “This is one of the highest achievements in my career at Barstow.”
These students contributed to the team’s Sweepstakes win:
Individual winners who earned the opportunity to go to the National Math Contest in College Station, Texas in June are Sanjana Akkulugari, eighth place overall in grade 4, Paranjay Sharma, seventh place overall in grade 6, and Sriram Pattabiraman, tenth place overall in grade 6.
Three additional Barstow students finished in the state’s Top 25. Raj Fanaswala placed 12th, Daniel John placed 19th, and Nithin Guduputi placed 21st in grade 6 competition.
Thank you to Ms. Keith and Math Club sponsor Barb McAleer for all their hard work and guidance during the 2017-2018 competition season.
