BARSTOW DEBATE COACH INDUCTED INTO DKC HALL OF FAME
Praising her as a champion of debate who coached hundreds of students to victories during her career, DEBATE-Kansas City inducted Barstow Debate Coach Linda Collier into its Hall of Fame on Thursday, April 5.
“We are excited to honor Linda Collier and her tremendous contributions she made to debate in the Kansas City area,” said Isaac Allen, DKC interim Executive Director. “DKC would not exist without her, and both the UMKC and Barstow debate programs were fundamentally changed through her coaching and leadership.”
Dr. Collier has coached debate at Barstow for 14 years. During that time, she qualified four teams to the prestigious Tournament of Champions and she launched the middle school debate program, which consistently leads the DKC Middle School League. Prior to Barstow, Dr. Collier revived the debate program at UMKC in 1987, leading the team to a national championship in 1994.
She also founded DKC in 1998 and helped manage the program in its early years. Since its inception, DKC has provided more than 11,000 students with access to debate programs and competitions.
