Barstow Robotics Team 1939 overcame a challenging start to rally for an impressive finish at the Oklahoma Regional FIRST Robotics Competition March 28-31.
After starting with two tough losses due to technical issues, the team went on to win seven consecutive matches. In one of those matches, Team 1939 handed the undefeated favorites their first loss of the season.
Sixty teams from five state and two countries participated in the tournament. As captains of the seventh seed alliance, the team narrowly defeated a strong second seed to advance to the semifinals.
The team won the prestigious Engineering Inspiration Award for its work with GoBabyGo and community outreach efforts. This award is one of only two awards that qualify the team for the FIRST World Championship in Houston April 17-22. The award also comes with a $5,000 grant from NASA.
