Students Explore Lessons With STEAM Tools

Students in every division continue to expand the way they learn about core subjects by incorporating STEAM activities at IDEA Space.
Matt Thurman's upper school algebra II students are designing catapults that launch small projectiles at different angles. Students measure the distance of each launch and plot the results on a graph.

Seventh grade creative writing students listened to radio plays from the 1930s, and are now recording their own. They are working in groups, adding voices, accents and sound effects to their own original scripts.

Sixth graders are continuing their unit on trash and waste, repurposing discarded items including plastic packaging, electronics & fabric. Students will present their capstone projects, based on the book "Trash," on Wednesday, May 1, at 5:30 p.m. (Take a look at our instagram for a glimpse of their creative process.)

In lower school, first graders "traveled" across the continent during North America Day on Friday, April 26, and third grade students designed and engineered miniature golf obstacles based on their favorite memories of the school year. They will challenge their parents to a round of putt putt at IDEA Space on Thursday, May 2.
