Barstow Debate Goes to Vegas
Barstow debate competed in the Golden Desert debate tournament hosted by the University of Las Vegas, Nevada, Feb. 4-6 in Nevada.
The Golden Desert is a Tournament of Champions qualifier. Fourty-four schools from across the country attended.
Two novice teams won quarterfinalist awards. Elliott Osman and Darin Goodman, along with Rohan Thomas and Aun Hathiari, earned Las Vegas-themed trophies for advancing to elimination rounds.
Each varsity team that attended finished with a 3-3 record; just one win short of advancing. "Considering everyone on the varsity is a junior or younger, the future looks bright," Coach Gabe Cook said.
Twenty Barstow students and four coaches, including Barstow graduate Miles Luces '20, traveled to the competition.
