The F1 Safety Car

Aston Martin will join Mercedes-Benz in providing safety and medical cars for the Formula One Circuit.

Since 1996 the safety car for the Formula One franchise has been provided by Mercedes-Benz in the form of their AMG GT R model, which is their highest performance model. The role of the safety car is to limit the speed of the other race cars during the event of an accident and to provide a “lead car” for the other cars in low vision environments.

For the first time, Aston Martin announced that the Vantage will officially be joining the AMG GT R as the official safety car of the F1 franchise. The special edition Vantage will be equipped with a paint scheme similar to that of their Formula one race car along with external wings and splitters to provide additional downforce. These safety cars are easily identifiable by their massive roof-mounted light bars which are used every time they come onto the track.

Along with providing an additional safety car, Aston Martin is now the main provider of the Medical Car. This role will be filled by their crossover known as the DBX which will officially replace Mercades’ role in that section. The Medical car takes care of any mishaps or accidents that involve staff or drivers. A powerful engine pumping out 542 horsepower and with a spacious interior makes the DBX a great fit for the role.

Making their return in the 2021 Season, Aston Martin has invested many of their assets into the Formula One circuit. With the new additions of their safety and medical cars, they have become one of the main sponsors and one of the star competitors of the season.
