Second Grade Entrepreneurs Open For Business

Ms. Plunghken and Ms. Kuhl created a recipe for lasting learning as they guided second graders through an economics unit — and encouraged them to become lemonade entrepreneurs.
After learning business terms such as services, goods, products, consumers, profits and other important aspects of running a business, the second grade students opened lemonade stands to apply their new knowledge.

Working in groups, they practiced organization, sales, production and marketing skills to design their businesses, produce commercials and accept payment in Barstow Bucks.

First and third grade students and teachers visited the stands and sampled the products. The  sales teams collected and calculated the profits, then the classes discussed successes and improvements.
