The Knights started a new season strong with a third place finish at the Park Hill Tournament on Wednesday, April 12.
The Knights took on a solid Park Hill South squad in the first round. Up 2-1, the #3 doubles team lost a tiebreaker to push the match into a 2-2 tie, with a win needed to win that 4-team pool. Two solid performances by #1 doubles, Sankeerth Gandhari and Sanjeev Adma let slip a 7-2 lead but held on for an 8-5 win, and the #2 team of George Colombo and Liam Cahill did the same with an 8-5 win.
The Knights took on Blue Springs next. Sankeerth and Sanjeev won handily 8-1, while George and Liam fought back from a 3-7 deficit to pull out an 8-7 (7-2) tiebreaker win. At #4 doubles, Nithin Guduputi and Chetan Thomas won 8-2, to clinch a 3-2 team win. The final match in the morning was against Lee's Summit North. Sankeerth and Sanjeev at #1 doubles won handily again, 8-1 and George and Liam did the same at #2, 8-4. Aaram Salam and Shayan Ahmed played their best match of the day rolling to an 8-4 victory to clinch another 3--1 team win.
Although the Knights were tied with Park Hill South they lost the "pool tiebreaker" of total games won barely and moved to Park Hill to play the 3rd place match against a solid and deep Park Hill team. Sankeerth and Sanjeev won again, 8-5 for a 4-0 day and Liam and George did the same, 8-5 for a perfect 4-0 day. Again, at #4 Nithin and Chetan held on for a solid 8-5 win to give the Knights the victory and 3rd place in this large Class 8 team tournament.
Individually, Sankeerth and Sanjeev won 1st place medals while George and Liam won 2nd place. The Knights play in the Truman tournament on Saturday, April 15.
