Knights Take on Rival Pembroke Hill

Knights Take on Rival Pembroke Hill
The Barstow girls tennis team took on another likely final four contender in the Raiders of Pembroke Hill.  Keeping with their loaded schedule, the Knights played another heavy hitter in the Raiders.   Pembroke won all six singles matches, with the best match at #2 singles.  Anya Stanojevic hung in with a strong baseline game and strong first serves to push the match to 6-6 before losing despite some of her best singles of the year, 6-8.
Doubles presented a better showing.  All three doubles teams competed well.   The sole win of the afternoon was at #3 doubles where Mira Gupta's steady baseline game and Mara's aggressive and mobile net play earned the Knights duo a strong 8-3 victory.  At # 2 doubles Emilia Prier and Duha Azaz couldn't overcome a mid set let down after a stron open and lost to a strong PH team, 5-8.   At #1 doubles, both Sonya Shkuta and Any Stanojevic played well through most of the match and held a 6-5 lead before a couple mistakes cost them a 6-8 loss.
The squad had a valuable day playing a top ranked opponent that will help them prepare for bigger things down the road.
Next week the girls participate in the second annual GREEN/WHITE  game for trophies and bragging rights on Monday, move on to Maranatha on Wednesday, Blue Springs and SENIOR NIGHT with both teams at home on Thursday and finish the week with St. Michael's on Friday.
