Fifth Grade Art Honor Society Members Help Kindergarten With Special Project
Members of the National Elementary Art Honor Society (NEAHS) met with kindergartners at IDEA Space on Wednesday, Jan. 28, to help guide them through a special art project.
The Barstow NEAHS chapter, introduced just this year, has 11 fifth grade members, all dedicated to making positive contributions to the world through art. Students who join NEAHS must complete a service requirement in order to keep their chapter active, and they chose to fulfill this requirement by helping kindergarten students with a special project that involved glazing ceramics.
On Wednesday, NEAHS members arrived at IDEA Space ahead of the kindergartners to set up and prepare for the project. Along with lower school art teacher Mrs. Polly Blair, they reviewed some leadership skills and specifics on using the materials correctly and respectfully. They discussed ways to positively encourage younger students who might need help coming up with ideas or using the tools or materials in the most effective way. By the time the kindergartners arrived, they were ready to help them have a great experience.
Kindergartners will take art classes with Mrs. Blair, now a familiar face, starting next year in first grade.
