Sixteen upper school students representing the National Chinese Honor Society and the Asian-American Pacific Islander Club sampled the art and culture of Asia on Thursday, Feb. 12.
The group visited the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to study its renowned collections of South and Southeast Asian art, Himalayan art and Islamic art from West Asia — widely regarded among the most comprehensive in the world. The Nelson has more than a thousand objects on display, including sculpture, ceramics, textiles and metalwork.
Students then traveled across Kansas City to dine at Sichuan Dynasty, where they experienced authentic, traditional cuisine from Sichuan Province, known for its signature balance of heat from chili peppers and the distinctive numbing spice of Sichuan peppercorns.
The outing combined cultural study, culinary exploration and community building for an immersive learning experience.
Students from The Barstow School's AAPI Club and the National Chinese Honor Society visited the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to view its comprehensive collection of Asian artwork.
They also enjoyed a taste of authentic spicy Sichuan cuisine.
