The upper school debate team won awards at two weekend tournaments — and the Parker siblings stole the show.
The squad competed at the Don Ramsey Varsity Invitational hosted by Rockhurst High School and the Pembroke Hill Speech and Debate Novice Fall Fling.
Miya Parker, freshman, placed third in novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate at her first-ever tournament; her brother Rex Parker, junior, won third in varsity Policy Debate with partner Brandon Willson, sophomore.
Miya had a 4-0 preliminary record before losing in the semifinals. Rex and Brandon defeated the top seed in the quarterfinals before losing on a 2-1 decision in the semifinals. Thirty schools from across the state attended the Rockhurst Tournament on November 14-15, while Pembroke hosted 19 schools on Saturday, November 15.
