The Barstow Debate Team earned multiple awards in three tournaments over the weekend, with standout performances in both varsity and novice divisions.
At the JW Patterson Tournament in Oklahoma City, Oct. 24–26, seniors Darin Goodman and Aun Hathiari advanced to the semifinals in varsity policy debate, earning one bid to the prestigious Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky in April. Aun was named third speaker and Darin fourth. Teammates Sky MacIvor, senior and Charlotte Turner, sophomore posted a 4–2 preliminary record.
Novice debaters also found success at the Belton Tournament, Oct. 24–25. Freshmen Noah Dutton and Gui Tabuchi earned second place in the novice/junior varsity division of policy debate, while freshman Nisah Hathiari and sophomore Lisa Thompson placed fifth. Both teams finished with a 3–1 record.
At the Ray-Pec Invitational, Oct. 24–25, junior Leo Karaichev advanced to the finals in Student Congress.
