Award-Winning Author Speaks and Draws With Students
Award-winning author and illustrator Nathan Hale visited Barstow on Monday, Sept. 15, to speak with students in grades three through eight about storytelling and history.
Hale, who writes nonfiction and historical graphic novels, demonstrated the power of art as a storytelling tool by recounting the story of Lewis and Clark’s exploration with the Corps of Discovery, sketching on an iPad as he spoke. He illustrated key figures from the expedition, including the dog that accompanied the explorers, and highlighted important moments and interactions along the way.
Hale is currently working on his 13th graphic novel, which will feature 13 illustrated stories from history. His visit was made possible through Barstow’s partnership with Rainy Day Books. See Instagram for photos.
