The final murals in a school-wide campus project are complete in the hallway outside middle and upper school science classrooms.
One serves as a visual reminder of The Barstow School’s mission to symmetrical development of mind, body and character. The other depicts the silhouettes of five students engaged in different activities alongside another well-known Barstow slogan, “Start here. Go anywhere.” Both foster an attitude of inspiration, potential and hope for the future.
This project, which began during the fall semester, involved a collaboration between Inclusion, Diversity + Equity co-directors Jessica Chanos and David Muhammad, and artist Katie Lee at KC Murals. Students had the chance to provide ideas and feedback during the design stage, allowing the decoration of their space to reflect their preferences and values. The entire process was made possible through a grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation received in the spring of 2024.
