Lower School Students Win at Science & Engineering Fair

Six lower school students won awards at the Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair (GKCSEF) in March.
The GKCSEF aims to promote STEAM literacy through project-based learning for students in the Kansas City area. Students in grades 4-12 from schools around the metro are invited to submit projects each year, which are displayed in the Grand Plaza at Union Station. This year’s awards were presented on Saturday, March 29.

Congratulations to the following award winners:
  • Celeste Garbos, grade 4: Blue Ribbon Division winner; Gold Ribbon First Place.
  • Elena Rafiee and Mia Slawson, grade 4: Blue Ribbon Division winners; Gold Ribbon First Place; Science City Maker Special Award winners.
  • Penelope Goodwin, grade 5: Blue Ribbon Intermediate Microbiology Division winner; Gold Ribbon First Place; Greater Kansas City Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Special Award Winner.
  • Sophie Mueller, grade 5: Gold Ribbon First Place in Engineering Mechanics; LeAnn Smith Science Pioneers' Legacy Special Award winner.
  • Jillian Truesdale, grade 5: Silver Ribbon Second Place Microbiology.
