Student Poets' Work Debuts at State Fair
Kansas Poet Laureate Traci Brimhall selected poems by three Barstow students to be displayed during the Kansas State Fair in September.
Brimhall has been displaying poetry at the fair for three years. Among this year's 20 selections for "There is No Place Like Home: Poems by Kansas Families," she displayed "Flying Through the Fair," by Calvin He, grade 7, "Cotton Candy," by Viola He, grade 5, and "Sunflower," by Isla Parker, grade 5.
An additional poem on display, "Dittany," was written by Barstow parent Hyejung Kook, inspired by one of the plants selected for Girl Scout Troop 3368's native pollinator garden planted on campus last spring. All the selected poems are published online by the Kansas Department of Commerce.
