Students Takes Stage in Scotland
An ensemble of upper school thespians travelled to London and Scotland in August to experience live theatre and to perform on a global stage. They presented "R&J: The Lost Children of Verona," a reimagining of Shakespeare's tragedy, at Edinburgh's Festival Fringe.
The Fringe is one of the largest celebrations of arts and culture on the planet. For three weeks every August, Edinburgh fills with performers from around the world across every genre — theater, comedy, dance and more. Performing there means Barstow students share a stage with professionals and first-timers alike, from dozens of countries, in front of audiences who came from everywhere to see it.
Fifteen students in grades 9-12and two 2026 graduates travelled with Head of School Art Hall and his wife Paula, Director of Theatre Jason Chanos and Director of Counseling & Wellness Jessica Chanos Aug 1-14, 2026. They cultivated performance, stage management and audience engagement skills, immersed themselves in cultural learning, and gained confidence during two weeks of international travel. They performed four times within a packed itinerary of sightseeing, cultural experiences and global education.
This was Barstow's fourth trip to Festival Fringe since 2010, in partnership with the American High School Theatre Festival (AHSTF) program.
