Kindergartners in Miss Hollie Kloser’s class welcomed six baby chicks to their classroom this week. The eggs hatched overnight on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
The eggs were provided by a Barstow family that raises chickens, giving students a hands-on opportunity to learn about animal care and life cycles. Kindergartners are learning chicken facts such as how large chickens grow, when they begin laying eggs and what is required to care for them safely and responsibly.
In addition to observing the chicks’ growth, students are learning how to handle the animals gently and understand their daily care needs. The chicks will remain in the classroom through next week before returning to their home on Thursday, Feb. 12.
Students from all divisions are invited to visit the classroom to meet the chicks and learn more about them from the kindergartners, who are eager to share what they have learned.
