Members of the French Honor Society used their language skills to spread holiday cheer this week, writing Christmas cards to residents at a nursing home in France.
When French teacher Madame Anne Hyvrard suggested the idea of writing holiday cards to elderly people who may be alone this season, students responded enthusiastically. Madame Hyvrard contacted a nursing home near where she grew up in Lyon, France, and arranged for students to write well-wishes for the residents in French. Some of the French students brought their friends along to help; these friends wrote messages in English, which French Honor Society students then translated.
To stay active in the organization, French Honor Society students must participate in one project per quarter. These projects often have a service or educational component. In the past, these activities have included National French week activities that included a spirit day, French food and reading to lower school students and teaching them about France. They are currently getting ready to organize a food and supply drive for KC for Refugees.
