Grade 6 Heads for the (Flint) Hills

Sixth grade students and faculty took a community-building trip to Rock Springs Ranch in Junction City, Kansas, Oct. 16-17.
The visit to the Flint Hills tallgrass prairie offered students the opportunity to connect with classmates by unplugging and enjoying nature—through stream study, mountain biking, rocket launching, canoeing, rock climbing and archery. In the evening, they gathered around the campfire to enjoy s’mores and celebrate a successful first quarter of school with a shared sense of accomplishment and connection.

Since its beginnings as a 4-H camp in 1946, Rock Hill’s purpose has been to offer students enrichment, leadership development, conservation education. It also gives visitors the time to stretch physically, emotionally and cognitively, surrounded by more than 700 acres of a diverse ecosystem comprised of rolling hills, prairie and springs.
