Lower and Middle School Students Recognized for Good Character

Students in lower and middle school have weekly opportunities this year to earn recognition for good character. Students selected for these recognitions exceed expectations, achieve personal goals, demonstrate responsibility and are kind and thoughtful to others.
Lower school students can earn a “Barstow Bravo” from a faculty member when they demonstrate good character by treating their peers respectfully, going above and beyond in the classroom or being a positive role model. Students who earn a Barstow Bravo get to put their name in a jar in the lower school office, where 10-15 names are drawn every Friday; students whose names are drawn can pick a prize. Students who do something truly outstanding can earn an “instant winner” Bravo and pick a prize immediately. Through this system, lower school students are encouraged to be kind, responsible and make good choices.

In middle school, students can also earn recognition by demonstrating good character through The Good Human Award, announced every Friday. The winner receives a trophy, which they then take home to add a personal touch before bringing it back for the next week’s winner. By the end of the semester, the trophy has evolved into something truly unique. Edie Nelson, grade 7, is this week’s Good Human Award winner and the first student this year to take the trophy home. Her teachers describe her as being empathetic and welcoming to new students, as well as asking thoughtful questions in class. Congratulations!
