Author Visits Seniors to Discuss Summer Reading

Author Doug Worgul visited the senior English class on Wednesday, August 20 to discuss his novel "Thin Blue Smoke," which was on the summer reading list.
Doug discussed his character-driven writing style and his use of language and dialog to communicate ideas to his readers. He talked about his time writing for the Kansas City Star where he was encouraged to explore topics unique to the city, such as barbecue; this experience eventually inspired and informed his novel. Students asked questions, offered insights and shared their favorite passages from the novel.

Doug has visited Barstow’s senior English classes for the last decade to discuss "Thin Blue Smoke." He has recently written a sequel titled “The Night Office,” which is in the process of being published.
