Upper & Middle School Robotics Returns for New Season

The middle school robotics team, open to all middle school students, has over 20 participants this year so far. Due to the high number of team members, the middle schoolers will form two teams and build two robots for the First Tech Challenge (FTC). While their game won’t be announced until mid-September, the team is reviewing skills such as pickup, placement and launching motions in the interim. Now in their second year, the middle school team has the confidence and experience to build their robots from scratch after gaining experience modifying a kit robot last year.

Upper school robotics team members also met this week. While their build and competition season starts in January, they are looking forward to several off-season events in the coming months. On October 10, they will work with other robotics teams to modify ride-on toy cars for children with disabilities as a part of Go Baby Go!, a Variety KC event. They will also compete in last season’s game against other schools in CowTown Throwdown on Oct. 23-24 at Lee’s Summit High School.

Both teams meet at IDEA Space on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. and are open to all middle and upper school students interested in joining.
