Upper school students began the new year learning in three science labs renovated during the summer. The reimagined Chemistry, Environmental Science and Physics classrooms are now officially open.
The $600,000 modernization project features upgraded infrastructure, flexible classroom designs, enhanced safety systems and new equipment that supports inquiry-based instruction.
Faculty members Kyle Dembinski, Kathryn Jones and Dr. Kimberly Cho are among the first to bring the new spaces to life with their students. Cho, who joined the faculty this year after 18 years at Pembroke Hill, conducted a colorful flame test demonstration for students in the Chemistry lab on Thursday. Students in the new classrooms quickly noticed the portability of the work station tables, new space configurations, safety hoods and chemically resistant epoxy floors, designed to withstand heavy traffic, equipment and frequent sanitization.
The renovations were funded by gifts from the Anne and JB Hodgdon Foundation, the Graves Family Foundation, Brette Hart Humphreys and Greg Humphreys, Tiffany and Allan Simpson, Ginger and Rob Rothhaas, and the William T. Kemper Foundation – Commerce Bank, Trustee. The School is deeply grateful for their support and look forward to building on this investment in STEAM education as we explore future renovations to the Biology, Physical Science, and Anatomy and Physiology labs.
