City Proclamation Honors Faculty Member

In honor of longtime faculty member William “Bill” Frank’s final year teaching, Barstow alum and Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas ‘02 proclaimed Monday, April 27 as William Frank Day. Mr. Frank is known by his past and current students as a kind and thoughtful teacher who makes his subjects fun.
Mr. Frank holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and physics and a Master of Science in pure mathematics. He joined the Barstow faculty in 1986 and has taught mathematics, computer science, finance and economics to upper school students. Over the years, thousands of students — including Mayor Lucas — have taken his classes, and he has even taught some of their children. Known for using mathematics as a tool to teach real-world problem solving skills, Mr. Frank has made a lasting impact in and out of the classroom. He has shared other life skills with his students too: an eighth degree black belt in Kenpo Karate and a Tai Chi instructor, Mr. Frank has taught self defense sessions during the end-of-year senior seminar for years.

His colleagues read the official proclamation issued by the mayor during a special assembly for upper school students on Monday, April 27.

As Mr. Frank prepares to retire at the end of the 2025-2026 school year, current students and alumni are invited to share their favorite memories on social media.
