Kindergarten students explored Japanese culture during a classroom feast on Feb. 12, encouraging global awareness from an early age.
As they learn about daily life in Japan, students focus on the experiences of children their own age to better understand connections across cultures. During the feast, students removed their shoes, sat at low tables and wore kimonos while practicing how to use chopsticks.
They also discussed the custom of serving others before themselves as a sign of hospitality. The menu included soboro (seasoned ground chicken) with egg and peas, sweet potato and dragonfruit. Several students expressed delight at how much they enjoyed the new dishes, and many eagerly practiced picking up peas with their chopsticks.
Experiences like these support the school’s commitment to helping students understand and engage with the world around them.
