Spotlight on Self Expression
One of the highlights of the year is the annual lower school musical, starring students in grades 3-5. In 2026, a cast of more than 70 students presented Disney's "Lion King KIDS," and put their growing confidence and self expression in the spotlight.
“Lower school theatre enhances all the lessons students learn in their classrooms and gives them a strong sense of self,” lower school music teacher Kristi Mitchell says. “The musical teaches teaches problem solving, cooperation, collaboration and empathy. These performances gives students freedom to play, to learn new skills and to lead."
Students perform as an ensemble —they rehearse scenes together, run dialogue and practice choreography. Studies show this kind of active learning improves kinesthetic, language, memory and problem-solving skills. Music and theatre are regular parts of the lower school curriculum.
