2026-2027 Middle School Mathematics Faculty

The Barstow School seeks a skilled, collaborative, and enthusiastic Middle School mathematics faculty member. This position will teach a combination of mathematics courses including Sixth Grade Math and Pre-Algebra, with an emphasis on mathematical reasoning, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving. 

In addition to mathematics instruction, this faculty member will teach an Executive Functioning Skills course and serve as an advisor for sixth grade students. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting students as they transition from Lower School to Middle School and develop the organizational, study, self-advocacy, and time-management skills necessary for success in a rigorous academic environment. 

Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to student-centered teaching, strong communication skills, and active participation in the life of the school community.

  • Foster student growth in mathematical thinking, problem-solving, and confidence
  • Support students’ academic, organizational, and social-emotional development
  • Build positive relationships with students while helping them navigate the transition to middle school
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues within and across departments
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, and colleagues through written and verbal communication
  • Participate actively in the broader life of the school, including advising, student activities, and community events
  • Model lifelong learning through professional growth, reflection, and intellectual curiosity

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Elementary Education, or a related field
  • Teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field
  • Experience teaching middle school mathematics and/or upper elementary school mathematics
  • Experience supporting executive functioning development, study skills, or student organization
  • Familiarity with differentiated instruction and student-centered learning practices
Compensation & Benefits
