Student representatives from thirty clubs—from performance to politics, environment to engineering, stocks to social action and just about everything in between—signed up new members at the Upper School Activities Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
Barstow extracurricular clubs offer students a chance to pursue passions or find new ones, enhance leadership and academic skills—and have fun and make friends.
Never heard of Shogi? It’s a game also known as Japanese chess. Shogi Club members will learn its history and how to play. Interested in academics? Try Knowledge Bowl, Engineering Drawing or Biology Club. The diverse list also includes Model UN, Social Ethics, Rowing, Art and the oldest club at the school, Pretenders performance club.
Ariza Nanji and Julia Butch, seniors, are co-presidents of the Politics Club. They organized a voter registration drive during the Activities Fair and helped ten students register to participate in the upcoming midterm elections. The drive, for students who are or will be 18 this year, continues Sept. 25, Oct. 2 and Oct. 9.
“We’re hoping to raise awareness about how to exercise the right to vote and we’ll discuss political issues that are important to people our age,” Nanji said.
