Rehearsals are underway for “Newsies,” the upper school musical that debuts on the Barstow stage in October. And while the show is filled with engaging songs, this production is also about the fancy footwork.
“It’s just as much a dance show as a musical,” Director of Theatre Bob Koehler said, “so this year we have a professional choreographer working with our cast.”
Kenny Personett performed for theme parks and cruise lines and worked as a choreographer in Los Angeles before receiving a Bachelors degree in Arts Management from William Jewell College and opening Empire Dance Academy in Kansas City.
Although “Newsies” does have a central character, Jack Kelly (portrayed by Rishi Malay, junior), the ensemble of newsboys who fight the powerful publishers is the heart of the production. Congratulations to the Newsies cast!
Tickets will go on sale in September. Join or renew your membership to Barstow Friends of The Arts (FoTA) by September 20 to purchase presale tickets to “Newsies.”
    • "Newsies" runs October 11, 12 & 13 in the Raymond B. White Auditorium at Barstow.

    • Kenny Personett is a professional choreographer working with the cast on the production's dance numbers.
