Robotics Throws Down

FRC Robotics Team 1939 competed in the Cow Town Throwdown off-season scrimmage at Lee’s Summit High School over the weekend of Oct. 23-24.
Ahead of their competition season which starts next semester, members of Team 1939, known as the Kuhnights, are staying busy. In September, they debuted a student-designed app called Scout-A-Lot, which helps analyze data and plan strategies during competitions. On October 10, they hosted Go Baby Go!, a Variety KC event, at IDEA Space. Along with other high school robotics teams, they modified ride-on toy cars for children with disabilities.

Cow Town Throwdown, which included last year’s FRC competition game, included teams from 42 high schools around the midwest. The game challenged teams to program their robot to navigate a course, collecting balls and launching them into a goal within a set time limit. As part of an alliance with teams from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Cedar Falls, Iowa and Riverside, Missouri, the Kuhnights made it to round 2 of the playoffs.

The Kuhnights will officially begin their next competition season in January, 2027.
