The cybersecurity team competed in round one of the 2026-27 CyberPatriot Competition on Friday, Oct. 23, where they completed a series of cybersecurity challenges within a six hour time limit to earn points. Barstow was one of 11 schools with teams from across Missouri to compete for a spot in the state level competition. In this initial round, the competition challenges test the basics of cybersecurity skills.
The team will compete in the second round of the competition on Friday, Nov. 13, where they will complete a more challenging series of tasks. Their combined points from both rounds will determine their competition tier for the state round in December. To compete in the platinum division, they must fall within the top 30%. The gold division consists of the middle 40%, and the remaining 30% compete in the silver division. Last year’s team competed at the platinum level and placed third in Missouri overall.
Team members this year are juniors Quincy Gilworth and Maaz Hawa, freshman Michael John, juniors Amelia Kalahurka and AliAkbar Khumri, sophomores Tarek Tuffaha and Keiran Vu and senior Eric Xi. Quincy, Maaz, Tarek and Eric competed in this round.
