Barstow Named One of America's Best Schools

The Barstow School retained its A+ ranking — and landed among America's Best Private and Independent Schools — in Niche.com's 2027 rankings.
Niche.com is an online platform that helps students and families research K-12 schools throughout the United States. It provides data-driven report cards and rankings, using millions of crowdsourced reviews and survey responses from users.

In a report released on Sept. 28, Barstow jumped 290 spots among 7,821 peer institutions to rank in the 98th percentile of private and independent K12 schools in the country. Barstow also retained its A+ grade for the eighth consecutive year. Barstow earned eight badges of distinction for being among the best private K12 schools, best private high schools and best STEM schools locally, statewide and nationally.

The Best Private High Schools distinction measures overall school quality without allowing any single factor to determine the ranking. Four-year college matriculation is the strongest signal, followed by college caliber, student satisfaction and student-teacher ratio. Where students enroll also matters, as does diversity, now measured specifically relative to other private schools. Barstow received an A- Culture & Diversity grade in the first year of this category. Accreditation, instructional spending and tuition value add to the overall quality ranking.

"We are proud of these rankings and our A+ grade, of course, but these numbers do not tell the whole Barstow story," President and Head of School Art Hall said. "Barstow's focus on rigorous academics, arts and athletics, leadership, community and belonging contribute to our School's strength and growth every year. We're grateful to our families for choosing Barstow and supporting our mission 'to give symmetrical development to mind, body and character' since 1884."
