Nezar Alchekakie, grade 6, has been named the first place winner of the National Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest for his grade. His essay was selected as the winner out of submissions from sixth graders nationwide who advanced to the national level.
Each year, students in grades 5-8 attending public and private schools enter this contest, writing essays on different historical topics related to events that shaped the history of the United States. Students submit essays to local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapters, and are then judged at the local, state, regional and national levels.
As a first place winner, Nezar is invited to a ceremony in Washington D.C. where he will present a short excerpt from his essay. He will also receive a pin, a certificate and a monetary prize.
