Sixth Grade Writer Rises to National Competition

Sixth grader Nezar Alchekakie won first place in his grade at the South-Central Division of the 2025 American History Essay Contest, sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Nezar now advances to the national level, where judges will review essays and select winners by mid-April. National-level winners from each grade are invited to a ceremony in Washington, D.C., where they receive a certificate and a pin.

The contest challenges students in public and private schools in grades 5-8  to research historical topics and reflect on the people and events that shaped United States history. In recognition of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, this year’s topic focused on that specific era (1773–1783) and significant people from that historical period.
