Science Olympiad Takes On Regional Competition

Barstow’s Science Olympiad team competed at the regional tournament at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. this past weekend, earning several recognitions.
Sophomore Sonia Akkulugari, freshman Sujith Akkulugari and juniors Aiden Flick and Adi Rastogi competed in a series of science-themed events, with Aiden and Adi notably earned second place in Chemistry Lab.

Additional recognitions include:

Sixth place – Designer Genes, Anatomy and Physiology, and Disease Detectives
Seventh place – Experimental Design
Tenth place – Forensics
Twelfth place – Water Quality and Entomology

Team members Amelia Kalahurka, sophomore, AliAkbar Khumri, sophomore, Tarun Mettapalli, junior, Rex Parker, junior, Sarim Rashid, junior and Jay Schonhoff, sophomore supported the team but were unable to attend the competition due to scheduling conflicts.

According to middle and upper school science teacher Dr. Bryce Wagner, students look forward to growing the team in anticipation of next year’s competition season.
