On Saturday, Nov. 4, a seven-student BTVN crew went to Turner Boxing Academy to produce a promotional video for one of the academy’s up-and-coming boxers.
Turner Boxing Academy is a not-for-profit organization that uses the sport of boxing to teach young men and women about sportsmanship and achieving goals through self-discipline and healthy exercise. Barstow alumni Tash Nunnick ‘90 connect Turner Boxing Academy with BTVN. He was familiar with the high quality of BTVN because his niece, Emma ‘19, participated in the signature program from 2017 to 2019. The crew spent two hours at the academy recording the footage necessary to produce a 3- to 5-minute promotional video. The video is an example of the project-based learning embedded in BTVN that gives students real-world experience producing materials for an authentic audience.
After the students' visit, Tash wrote to Director of Broadcasting & Media Studies Sean Holmes, "I personally want thank you and your team. You and your team were amazing and so professional. You made a dream come true for John. A lot of this is done out of our own pockets, so to have that production take place is unreal."
