The boys tennis team took second place on Friday, April 28, in the Blue Springs Tennis Tourney at Santa Fe Park.
At A Doubles George Colombo and Sankeerth Gandhari beat Pembroke Hill, 8-3 in the opening round. The Knights team then squared up with the #1 seed, 18-1 Liberty. With consistent first serves and a dominating net game, Sankeerth and George jumped on LIberty early and never let up for an 8-5 victory. In the Championship round, the Knights met another outstanding team from Blue Springs South. Sankeerth and George got off to a slow start, losing 3-6 in the first set but rallied to tie it at 6-6 in the second set before losing 6-8. The boys grabbed second-place silver medals.
In B doubles, Aaram Salam and Sanjeev Adma seeded second, beat Warrensburg 8-0 in the opening match and dominated the Liberty duo, 8-1 in the second. In the Championship round, the Knights rolled 6-1 in the first set and then pulled out a tight 6-4 victory behind strong first serves by Sanjeev with Aaram cleaning up volleys at the net. Aaraam and Sanjeev grabbed the first-place gold medals.
In A singles, Liam Groden won his opener against Liberty, 8-5 but lost to Blue Springs South, 8-4 in the semis. Liam rallied with a strong offensive game in the final round and captured a third-place medal.
In B singles, Shayan Ahmed lost his opening round, 5-8 to Blue Springs, but won the semi-finals, 8-0. In the 5th place match, Shayan jumped to a 5-0 lead, stumbled a bit to move to 2-5 but cleaned up his serves and groundstrokes for an 8-3 victory.
Knights Beat Lee's Summit NorthThe team won their ninth match in a row defeating a solid Bronco squad, 8-1. In usual form, the Knights swept the opening doubles matches. At #1 doubles George Colombo and Sankeerth Gandhari dominated with first serves and a smothering net attack, 8-0. At #2, Liam Groden and Shayan Ahmed took on an equally tough doubles pair and used consistent serves and solid service returns to come back from an early deficit and hold on for an 8-6 win. And at #3 doubles Aaram Salam and Sanjeev Adma shook off some inconsistent network to hold on for an 8-6 win.
At #1 singles, Sunny Gandhari played some outstanding singles to roll a solid player for the Broncos, 6-2, 6-0. At #2 singles, George Colombo rolled in the first set, 6-2, and held on in the second to win in the tiebreaker 7-6 (7-3). At #3 singles, Liam Groden won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 and at #4, Sanjeev Adma rolled to a comfortable 6-2, 6-0 win. At #5 singles, Aaram Salam won handily, 6-2, 6-1.
