Coach O'Brien Inducted Into Missouri Sports Hall of Fame

Girls and boys tennis coach Tom O'Brien was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, April 23.
Coach Tom O'Brien was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame along with former Sporting KC star Matt Besler, Lorenzo Cain of the Kansas City Royals and 15 other prominent sports figures and programs.

A Kansas City native, O’Brien has coached high school sports for 51 years. He began at Bishop Hogan High School, later at Hickman Mills High School and then The Barstow School. In 2006, he took over the tennis program at The Barstow School, and the teams have combined for eight top-four finishes since. That includes two girls state championships in 2013 and 2021, and a boys state title in 2021.

He oversaw nine doubles titles combined, including six doubles state championships in girls tennis. O’Brien has been a Coach of the Year by the Missouri and Midwest Sections (2013, 2021), the Missouri Valley Heart of America and the National Federation of High School Associations.
