Student Creators Win Video Contest

Two Barstow upper school students won top honors in a regional drug abuse prevention PSA contest.
Ethan Wood, sophomore, won first place in the REEL Prevention PSA Contest. Senior Anna Shapoval won third place. They were recognized at a celebration at Powell Community Center in Mission, Kansas, on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

High school students from Jackson, Platte and Clay Counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas competed to create 30-second public service announcements about the dangers of drug use and benefits of a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Reel Prevention is a part of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Operation Engage, a comprehensive approach to bring together law enforcement, education, and youth engagement to best address community drug prevention.

Wood's first place finish earned him a $1,000 scholarship award, and an appearance on KSHB 41 News. Shapoval earned the $250.
