Engineering Students Place First at KC Competition

Five students competed at the KU School of Engineering High School Design Competition on Thursday, Oct. 20, and two of them earned first place finish.
Congratulations to junior Sriram Pattabiraman and sophomore Katalin Somogie, who won the mechanical engineering competition. The prize is a $2,000 KU scholarship.

The competition puts students' creativity, teamwork skills, technical knowledge and abilities to the test. Each High School Design features engineering design challenges in various engineering disciplines created by students in the Self Engineering Leadership Fellows (SELF) Program. Working as individuals or in small teams, students design, build, and test a project that addresses the design criteria.

Junior Chloe Golladay and sophomores Amelia Beagle and Isaac Shimamoto participated in the civil engineering category. All five students are members of barstow's upper school engineering club.
