Spirit Week Art Project Supports Ukraine Children

Eleven artists in Ms. Lea's drawing and painting II classes partnered with The Memory Project to help families displaced by the war in Ukraine.
The Memory Project began in 2004 by Ben Schumaker as a way to connect children around the world through art to help build cultural understanding and kindness. Students receive pictures of children from around the world and create drawings and paintings of them. Today, the organization has more than 300,000 kids in 55 different countries involved in The Memory Project.

Traditionally, the organization partners with orphanages but this year, The Memory Project partnered with organizations assisting families who have been displaced by the war in Ukraine. Art teacher Amanda Lea said, "I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do a great thing and to make another connection to Ukraine since we have our Ukrainian students here this year."

Another way the Barstow community has shown support to our Ukrainian students was with a special service and spirit week from Sept. 26-30. On Friday, Sept. 30 students and faculty wore blue and yellow to support our four Ukrainian students and their friends and families. To see pictures from the day click here.
