Artists Showcase Their Work Downtown

Eight upper school students participated in the Kansas City Chalk & Walk Festival on Saturday, Sept. 3. Student artists designed two pavement squares on sponsored street canvases of the Historic City Market in Kansas City.
Under the direction of art teacher Amanda Lea, students drew symbols of Kansas and Missouri to represent the two states that encompass Kansas City. There are sunflowers and a bison for Kansas, and hawthorn and an eastern bluebird for Missouri. The addition of two honeybees shows the state insects of Kansas and Missouri.

Lilly Kennedy Gregg '24 designed the other square which featured a fall landscape with a scarecrow. Students worked together to complete the design and showcase the work to festival goers.
